http://drupal.org/project/smtp if you want to use your mail server, and then download phpmailer from http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpmailer/files/phpmailer%20for%20php5_6/PHPMailer%20v5.1/PHPMailer_v5.1.tar.gz/download and extract that into a folder INSIDE of your smtp plugin called phpmailer

After installing smtp plugin and phpmailer login to drupal as an administrator. Then under the Administer option, under "Site Building" select Modules and enable SMTP Authentication.

To setup the smtp server login to drupal as an administrator. Then under the Administer option, under the "Site Configuration" header select SMTP Authentication Support.
